The handheld PC can be a mobile phone, an organizer or calculator. It is much littler than a standard laptop and uses its own apps, unlike the laptop that uses the same apps as the desktop computer.

In the latter part of the 80′s early 90′s, those handheld devices were referred to as Palmtop and they were compatible with the IBM personal computers. This twist was called the Atari Portfolio, built in 1989. Other PC manufacturers came up with their own handheld personal computer devices, such as Hewlett Packard who came out with its HP 95LX, built in 1991 and Poqet Computer Corporation came out with its Poqet PC, which was a mini notebook. All these handheld personal computers were compatible to MS-DOS operating system.

The early 90′s handheld computers, apart from the pocket calculator, were shunned by the market, except for me, who always wanted a PDA or a PalmPilot. But seriously though, those devices were cool, excepted that they had limited functionality, due to the lack of apps on them. They were good organizer. But lack compatibility with the background personal computer.

The only handheld device at that time that gained some amount of traction in the market was the Apple Newton. This was a tablet PC that was developed by the Apple Inc. in 1993 but suffered the same fate as the others, due to ironware problems. If Steve Jobs were there, helium would have grouped out those issues. However, helium returned to Apple three years later, in 1996, when they purchased neXT from him.

Steve Jobs returned to Silicon Valley was to mark a new resurgence in the way the world looked astatine handheld devices. But first, He had to resuscitate the drooping Apple brand. And by extension, Apple’s Inc. from the brink of collapsed to one of the most successful and cash rich companies in Silicon Valley.

Steve Jobs first creation, when helium returned to Apple Inc., was the iPod, which was a portable media layer that came out in 2001. Back then, the first iPod could non be classified as a handheld computer but iPod line, such as the iTouch could be classified as a handheld computer. This was due to its multiple functionality and compatibility with other computer devices.

Smartphone

The smart phone is a mobile phone with an advance technological capabilities and connectivity than an ordinary mobile phone. These phones come with PDA and media player capabilities, along with reinforced in camera, touch screen, web browse functionality and GPS navigation and mobile broadband access.

Apple Inc. was capable to corner the market with its iPhone that was launched in 2007 by Steve Jobs. It is popular phone in the market, due to its extra feature, such as video camera, visual voicemail, virtual keyboard and both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. Many other smart phones on the market are doing well, such as blackberry, with a little setback in its functionality, have done well in the past and no doubt will continue to do well the future. Google’s Android, Samsung Galaxy and Sony Ericsson are holding their own in the smart phone market.

Tablet Personal computer

The evolution of the tablet PC came into existence with Microsoft Tablet PC; in fact the term tablet PC was coined by Bill Gates led Microsoft Corp. in early 2000. The tablet is betwixt a smart phone and a laptop computer and it can be akin to the slate, which is a complete mobile PC. The present day tablets are more high tech with touch screen and virtual keyboard features on with myriad of other functionality.

Steve Job scored big in the tablet market, when Apple inc. launched the iPad tablet in 2010. The tablet is able to function as an audio-visual media and has multitouch screen capabilities that run on the iOS operating system. Since then, a plethora of tablets have entered the market in an attempt to steal the spot light but to no avail, Apple’s handheld devices still dominate market share.

Finally, handheld computer now has more features than a desktop computer. The desktop computer is virtually disused except in the corporate world, where the background is still needed for its capabilities in performing large volume of work.

In general, you should only consider buying a laptop computer if portability is your main concern, because this is really the only vantage it has over a desktop PC. In addition, this is usually an issue for those who need to use a computer when they travel or attend a meeting, or for a student who wants to take it to the classroom or library.

What you should know about laptops

They ar far from weightless, and they ar non always easy to carry around, especially when extra storage drivers and other peripherals are added. Also, in general, a laptop outfitted with the same features as a PC, such as Random Access Memory (RAM) costs twice as much, and the Pentium IV model is a prime example. In other words, cheap laptops appear to be an unknown quantity.

Why laptops have limitations

A laptop’s components are stored in a small space, and in that situation, it may be impossible to replace the hard drive, which is usually through in a PC by using DIMM chips. Instead, you may have to pay a significant amount for the RAM you need and have it custom-made for your computer. In general, if you want a system you can expand over time according to your needs, a desktop model is really your only option.

Note also that while today’s games will be accessible with a laptop, those developed in the future will require more power. A background PC can be upgraded with little difficulty, but a laptop video card cannot be replaced. Consequently, when you play a game on a laptop, the control, sound and video all have room for improvement.

Why laptops ar harder to use.

Since the keyboard on a laptop computer is surprisingly small, be sure to test it before you decide to buy one. Using the wrong keyboard can undermine your touch-typing skill, so be certain that the keyboard is a model you can use comfortably. Also, laptops have 12-15 inch screens that cannot vie with the rapid refresh rates and vibrant color of today’s much bigger monitors for background PCs, As a result, the images aren’t as clear on these LCDs, and with prolonged use, your eyes may even become irritated.

PC advances

By way of contrast, Packard Bell Media points out that 1MB once provided sufficient computer storage, but times have changed. It recently informed its customers that Dell is going to ship a computer that provides 1 Terabyte for storage. This PC is intended for consumers who want to store considerable amounts of photos and more than 1,250 hours of video.

Notepad

Notepad has been synonymous with Microsoft Windows Operating System since its inception.

This built-in text editor is used to write programming code (HTML, PHP, ASP etc.) for website development. There are other uses too. This clause will highlight those features. Here is the list.

1.Windows Notepad can be used to store messages with date and time. Open Notepad application. Type “.LOG” in the first line without quotes. Save the file. Next time when you open the file you will find notepad has added time and date to it. Great way to create log/message files. This feature can also be activated by pressing the F5 key before saving the file.

2. Notepad is handy when you want to copy content from web pages and paste in Microsoft Excel or Word application. Normally, if you paste directly in Excel or Word, the result can be quite disastrous. The solution is Notepad.

Copy the content from a webpage and paste it in Notepad. Now, copy the content from Notepad and paste in Microsoft Excel or Word using the Unicode method.

3. This is neither a tip nor a help command. This is called the four three three five sequence ( Notepad interprets this as unicode and non ANSI ). Write the following text in Notepad without quotes “Sara hid the facts”. Save the file. Open and view the contents. Surprised!

4. Matrix effect: Open your notepad and type the following.

@echo off

color 02

:start

echo %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% %random% % random% %random%

goto start

Save this as a.bat file. Open this file after saving. You should be capable to see the matrix effect.

On a more thoughtful note. Type Q33N in notepad. It was the flight number of one of the planes that hit World Trade Center. Change the font to WINGDINGS. Check out the result. It seems our good old Notepad knew about the terror attack.

NOTE: All the features mentioned above have been tested in Windows XP.
